General Information:
Cub Scouts and their leaders can now earn a special Leave No Trace Awareness Award that recognizes concern and respect for the environment.

Six Leave No Trace Guidelines for Cub Scouts have been designed to protect neighborhoods and local parks:

  • Plan ahead
  • Stick to trails
  • Manage your pet
  • Leave what you find
  • Respect other visitors
  • Trash your trash.

Requirements for the award are detailed in Leave No Trace Frontcountry Guidelines (BSA No. 13-032). When boys and leaders complete the requirements they may purchase a Cub Scout Leave No Trace patch (No. 08797). Both the publication and patch are available through local councils.

BSA Leave No Trace Link- good content.  Award requirements are tied to Boy Scouts and not Cub Scouts though.  Will post Cub Scout requirements when I find them.
Area Training:

Leave No Trace Trainer course - Shenandoah National Park, VA

Date:
July 18th - Classroom Session - PATC Headquarters, Vienna, VA
July 23 & 24 - Weekend Field Training - Shenandoah National Park

Coordinator:  Mark Holland at TPLNT@patc.net for registration and course information.

Course Description:  On Monday evening, we will discuss the heart and soul of Leave No Trace, the skills of planning and preparing and teaching styles.  Students will be assigned presentation topics for the weekend session.  During the weekend field training, students will make informal presentations on LNT principles followed by discussion.  Students will focus on presentation skills, LNT principles and practices and learn how backcountry habits and actions impact the land and focus on ways to decrease or eliminate that impact.  Our hiking mileage will be low as most of our time will be spent in discussions and demonstrations of low impact backcountry and frontcountry practices and issues.
