If there is one thing I can say about
scouting is that it is fun. My son and I had a great time in the Tiger program
last year, and we both met many wonderful and friendly cubs and parents. It was
so fun, that when Mark Maier, our Committee Chairman, asked for volunteers I couldn’t wait to sign up.
Now I serve as Cubmaster, Wolf Den Leader,
and Outdoor Committee Chairman, and even though I have a busy schedule, it still is fun.
It’s especially great seeing the pride my son has for me while I serve the pack. Getting
to know all of our children personally and seeing them change is great too.
My
first glimpse of our pack was as a Tiger Parent where the spirit of scouting was instilled in my son and reawakened in me. These Tigers have grown to Wolves now- much more capable and hungry for fun and adventure. I look forward to meeting our Bears and Webelos and helping them any way I can. However, one person can only do so much.
The future of our pack will be determined by
the generous efforts of our scouting parents- those people who truly nurture our packs children. They help me at every step- they volunteer for pack leadership positions and impromptu classes at den meetings. They lend their time, life-experience, materials, and social connections needed for
quality activities. For this I am truly thankful.
